Dear Elementary Music Teachers,

I am happy to announce an exciting opportunity for your 4th-6th grade students! Every year, the American Choral Director’s Association sponsors an Elementary All-State Honor Choir. The Honor Choir is a part of the IMEA statewide conference that is being held in Pocatello, February 1-4, 2023 on the beautiful campus of Idaho State University!

This is a great opportunity for our young singers, especially in the Southeast Idaho area, to have an honor choir experience and get the chance to sing in a large choir, under the direction of a nationally known clinician. The Elementary Honor Choir will be a one-day event on Friday, February 3rd, 2023. Students will check in that morning, rehearse through the day, have a dress rehearsal and performance that evening. It’s a full day packed with music, new friends, and opportunities to grow!

The Elementary students do not need to audition for this Honor Choir. Students are recommended by you, their teacher, to participate. There is a simple form online that you can fill out to complete the official recommendation process. Each teacher is allowed to recommend 8-10 students, but can recommend fewer students as well. I would suggest choosing your students and then contacting families to see if they accept the invitation to participate. Then you can go online and officially recommend them to participate and pay the $10 per student registration fee at that time. Each school that is sending students to participate must provide a minimum of 1 chaperone to be present throughout the day to help be responsible for your group of students. The cost is $85 per student to participate and that will include music, practice tracks, t-shirt, lunch and dinner, a full day of rehearsals with our wonderful clinician, and the chance to perform in one of the beautiful performance venues at Idaho State University.

If your area has 6th graders in the Middle School setting, then you’d want to have them audition for the Middle School Honor Choir. If you have 6th graders in your Elementary Schools or in your choir, then you should have them register for the Elementary Honor Choir. This will make things easier for you as you are helping students to learn their music ahead of time.
